The gnocchi-do I need to precook like I would if I was using pasta?
Sorry if it didn't make sense though-reading it back I don't really make it clear! I am going to cook cauli and make the cheese sauce to bake it in, but didn't know if I need to cook the gnocchi first too, as it only needs a couple minutes boiling.

I don't know if you need to, but I've always pre-cooked mine when I do a gnocchi baked dish & it's always come out fine - if you're boiling the cauliflower anyway I'd just shove the gnocchi in with it for the last couple of minutes.
  • and i'd like to add nomnomnomnomnomnomnomnomnom that sounds lovely, i can see a new dinner item at chez ioiwe :)

  • sounds like a lovely dish for this hideous weather... don't know if it's the same where you are, but here in blackpool it's been rubbish weather for the past couple of days... got caught in torrential downpour at asda fleetwood yesterday and it's been raining pretty much all day since during the night....

i usually do gnocchi with a cheesy sauce or something akin to a bolognese... have also been known to do a pesto, cream and cheese number!!!
  • i used to do mine with a tin of toms, garlic and basil, heated up, mashed down and then pour over the gnocchi (weezl's recipe!! very very easy to make)

i think the nicest i ever had was with steak in a tomato sauce when in italy

I've always pre-cooked it before doing a bake. As long as you take them out of the water just when they pop to the surface it should be fine.

    Hi Hotcookie

Yes I always cook the gnocchi first, it only takes a few minutes. Let me know how it turns out!

I ended up doing cauli with carrots beans and gnocchi (all pre-cooked) and smothering in a cheese sauce. It was delicious. Had pork chops(actually a small organic leg pork joint(whoopsied!) chopped in half) with a cider, mustard and cream sauce. very yummy, very filling and very very bad for me!
