Hi,
just wanted to hear the views on The course ECDL. I researched this over the net and i find that i already have what the course is actually offering, but don't have a certificate to show evidenc.alot of jobs that i am applying to ask for ECDL as desirable.IS it actually worth it to go for it.
Another thing is cost,£237 pounds if i do it at a college, that is for exams, tution and etc.online is about 80 quid cheaper. as anyone done it online,or is college more worth it.
thanks

If job descriptions are describing it as desirable, then it sounds like it's worth it.
It's not all about the qualification, by spending your free time on a course you are also showing future employers that you are ambitious, driven and keen!
As for choosing whether to do it online or not - don't let the price decide that for you. If you learn better face to face where you can ask questions etc then there's no point going online, failing would be even more expensive!
(Oh, and good luck if you do decide to go for it).0 -
I did it years ago and it really was a good basic grounding, I often see it asked for on job descriptions and if I were an employer I would think a job seeker with it had a fairly wide basic grasp of computer use.
I think £237 is cheap for what it provides, I would do it at college then you have someone to ask if you get stuck, good luck.Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0 -
Also worthwhile having a look at CLAIT for the same purpose.0

Im in the same position as bee, i have most likely covered everything that you do in the ecdl and i have a certificate for my course, all the employer would hav eto do is contact the college, ask me or btec about what was covered on the course i did, im still debating whether to do ecdl or not0

Yes you could and I would think that would be perfectly acceptable.
I believe you can sit the exams for ECDL without doing the course at any Pearson Vue testing centre. FE colleges might also have testing facilities. The course is available for free in a number of regions for unemployed people/disadvantaged people so that might be worth investigating.0 -
Learn direct do ecdl courses not sure of the price though0

I would check the prices, I did the ECDL and the advanced ECDL and it was pretty straightforward if you have had some experience using the Microsoft Office suite of programmes. The course I did was one afternoon a week and did not cost me anything but I think the college I attended had some additional funding which covered the costs.0

thanks everyone,
i think i will probably go for the course at college. i am not able to find it free,i think i would have to pay £232.
but thanks for your tips,i have modified my cv.:T0 -
hi everyone,
today i went to the local college to enquire on ecdl courses, and they said i can get funding if i have not qualified to level 2 meaning if i have not done GCSEs or 'a'levels or nvq,i can do it free of charge, with just paying the registration fees.
COuld i ask would they just take my word for it or they make any checks. i did not do GCSE or 'a' levels,i studied in a different country and i took the exams back home which may or may not be in the same level as GCSE,i don't know. could some one offer a view on this as i am stuck to what i have to do. it would be wonderful if i can get some funding as i am between jobs and i don't want to hassel my husband to pay for the course.0
