UK mortgage from abroad

hi, any thoughts on situation below greatly appreciated:

- need £180k loan to add to £70k deposit (home value £250)
- joint mortgage with partner.
- i have a small UK mortgage already (buying 50% of one UK property with a friend)
- both me and my partner live and work in Switzerland, so are paid in Swiss francs.

which leaves me with the following questions:

- are 'we' a first-time buyer (despite my interest in another flat)
- does this need to be a buy-to-let? (we will stay in Switzerland but initially will probably use the flat as a weekend home whilst decorating ready to let out)
- anyone know any good buy to let options from internationally?

thanks,

MT

These scenarios can be relatively straight forward - last one I did was from Bermuda! So being closer to the EU, makes lenders feel a little safer as well

FTB or not, is not really an issue with these situations - it is more what your intentions for the property are, and what your logistics will be in the coming years i.e. will you move back into the property?

Whereabouts in Switzerland? I might have driven past you back from holidays, went through Basle, past the lakes :) Just beautiful

Lenders use scoring systems, which tend not to work with foreign address's, so you may struggle with any large lender such as TMW - a good vlaue B2L lender.

Really this is one for a specialist lender - a forign Bank based in London for example. Would take some hours of research so you will need to do this yourself or find a broker.
  • thanks for the tips gents.

so, anyone recommend a London broker who you've used to arrange a UK mortgage from overseas?

@herbiesjp - glad you enjoyed your swiss jaunt. lovely around basel but for me it's all about the bernese oberland and ticino in the south - both great to visit if you're into walking or just hanging in the mountains. i live in geneva, also a nice city.

Yep - went through ticino to get to Gotthard and on to Italy

Stunning views, especially if you go over the Gotthard pass up the twisting roads! Not one for vertigo suferers!
