Hi there - It doesn't give the details from when the debt occurred it just states the period as the last 36mths and "6 late payments"...
  • Hmmm.. well since it would be pre feb 2007 I would send a letter asking for a copy of the signed credit agreement instead.

    Hey dmd,

Relax a little - if the debt isn't yours then they can't make you pay it, and it is up to THEM to prove that YOU owe the money. Not 100% sure what you need to do next, but I think send the 'prove it' letter anyway?

Can't be much help on the credit report front, sorry, but there are plenty of people here who can be :)

    Thanks v much immoral_angel

Another Q...on Credit expert next to this Barclaycard it has under "cash advances" it states 6 - am I right that is taking cash out of a hole in the wall on a credit card? If so I have never ever done that on any credit card so I fear someone has got hold of a copy of my card and taken cash out, as the card was so old I would not have changed my address when moving so these new statements have gone to my old address?

My instinct is to call Barclays... Is that wrong?
  • Cash advances are either cheques or cash from a hole in the wall.
What I would be tempted to do would be to write to barclays enquiring for further details. Just say you saw it on your credit report and wanted further details as you think it could be fraudulent. Don't admit the debt or give them any details other than what's on your credit report and see what it comes back as.

Yes, 'cash advances' are taking out money from a hole in the wall on a credit card - not the most sensible thing in the world, as you know! It sounds suspiciously like whoever has opened/used this credit card has been just taking the cash and running.

Whatever has been going on, it's looking very much like we're dealing with fraud here, though of what specific type it's still hard to say. It's difficult to clone a card whch is not in active use, but getting a 'replacement' card maybe could be done if statements were still going to your old address. Have you managed to find your old credit card number yet? if so, is it the same as the number the DCA are quoting in their letter?

    Thanks Jes,

I think you may well be right. I obviously (stupidly) didn't get round to cancelling that card and fear they may have sent balance transfer cheques or a replacement card to my old address... I suspect this has taken place in the last 18mths as all our post was on re-direct for 12mths after moving and I didn't receive anything from Goldfish during that period.

I'm at work at the moment but have phoned my brother who is checking my old paperwork at my Mums for anything from Goldfish... if he find something I will check that against the number on the letter from Debt Managers Ltd.

    What a pain!!

Hi Jes, my brother has found an early statement from Goldfish the credit card number is different to the one quoted on the Debt Managers Ltd letter...

    Hi there,

Just a quick update, after months of letters and phone calls this is now finally all sorted out.

Barclaycard agreed that the cash advances were gained fraudulently (via my old address) and have credited and closed the account, my credit report has been updated;with both the default and account being removed.

Thanks for all your advice many months ago!
