Money can be a problem but knowledge, much less so.
If all you're doing is wringing your hands saying "We can't do this" - then that is also a problem.
Someone who says "I can do this" can be wrong, but someone who says "I can't do this" never is...
You're dead smart Zed. I dont have much confidence at all, as you can probably tell
That's not a bad idea as a temporary measure TBH. Just make sure it's big enough to completely cover the hole, make sure you are screwing it down into the joists with screws long enough to penetrate the chipboard, make sure the screws are flat topped and the holes are countersunk so it's as flat as possible.
If you apply glue to the overlap between the metal and the chipboard it will stop any squeaking - at least initially.
But remember it is only a patch.
Finally someone understands my plan. DH kept saying metal wouldnt be strong enough, if we had it thin enough to go underneath the carpet. I disagreed. Will look into it further
Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:

The metal is supported by the wood all round. It does need to be of a certain thickness though, and securely fastened all round. It'll be operating under tension - rather like a rope. Provided it is thick enough not to rip, it should be fine."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Will you stop laughing !!!!!
We cant really talk to people, the hole is covered by the bedroom carpet. If you lift the carpet, you can see the living room ceiling
