Can I use a crumpet recipe for pikelets?

Hello,

I want to make my Mum Pikelets for her birthday, but searching on the internet only brings up weird sweet pancake things. The pikelets I want to make are like thin (savoury) crumpets so can I just use a crumpet recipe? Crumpets seem to need to be put in a ring to cook, but I assume a pikelet wouldn't need a ring as it is thin, but would I need to make the batter thicker so it doesn't end up like a pancake? Any advice would be great as I want them to work out nicely.

Not sure if this might help http://http://www.hub-uk.com/interesting03/pikelets.htm

I always thought a pikelet was a thin crumpet but I know a lot of people think a pikelet is more like a small sweet pancake! The site above explains and gives recipes for both. An alternative (cheat) is Marks and Spencer who have very nice pikelets, which are like thin crumpets - very confusing but there again I like my crumpets and pikelets toasted, my sister in law likes them steamed . Each to their own and good luck whatever you decide to do....

  • Secret Lady: I want to make a home made version of the M&S ones. It's the sweet ones that confused me when I was trying to find an internet recipe. I like them toasted also, never heard of steaming them, sounds... soggy!
