Joining a Gym

Ok I really hope I am posting this in the right place!:undecided:huh: I think so because it is to do with my health and it is about moneysaving so here goes.

I am looking to join the Total Fitness gym in Warrington as it is near to my college so easy to get to. I am wondering if anyone has had any experiance of Total Fitness and if so if they were able to get any discount on the price as it does seem VERY high!

Please help xxx:)

I personally have never used Total Fitness Gyms, and dont know anyone who uses the Warrington one, but my current housemate is a member of the Preston one. He goes every few days and says its great. I'm thinking of joining it soon as I moving house and will be closer to it, so may be more convenient.

I have heard reports that if you want to use the swimming pool though you have to wear a swimming cap which did put me off a little... but I can't say for sure as I am just going on what others have said.

Check out your local council facilities, they may not be as bright and sparkly but probably a lot cheaper.

    Hi
I use to work for Total Fitness (not the Warrington site though).
You may be able to get a corporate discount depending on who you work for, also you could consider off peak (depending on when you want to go). The best thing to do is go and have a look around, the membership teams aren't really pushy and some will offer you a free trial membership for the day.
As somebody mentioned you do have to wear a swimming hat in the pool, this is for hygiene purposes. It didn't really bother me as everybody has to wear them so you won't look a wally!! Also the large pools are good if you are a serious swimmer as children are not allowed in them, they have a smaller pool for children and aqua classes.
If you have any more questions just ask!

Just to add to my above post, if you sign up at Warrington you will be able to use any of their other gyms. Handy if you travel for work or go stay with friends!

If you want something a bit cheaper than a gym you could take up running - trainers cost from about £30, running shorts and tops are cheap too - warning it is seriously addictive though :p
  • Hi everyone thanks for all your replies.

Wish I could, unfortunetly the reason I have put on so much weight is beacause I have had problems with my knees and have been told not do any running until I can get the ok from the physio. Though I hope to take it up soon as I quite like the idea of just running through my local park listening to my MP3s.:D

I will be honest I never thought of that. I have looked into my local leisure centre and I am quite surprised as the annual membership is the same price as Total Fitness but I think they have a reduction on it at the moment!:cool:

I will be calling in on them tonight as I have my open evening at the college so I will see if I can get a trial membership.

I have just found another Gym called Exclusive Fitness which is very close to me and it is also ladies only, which is another of the reasons I was looking at Total Fitness. I am going for a look around tomorrow and I do know that they do an 8 weeks trial membership for £50 which I think will be ideal for me, because if I don't stick to it (I am going to try my best but I am about to go back to school for the first time in 6 years so you never know) then I won't have lost too much money:money:.

P.S I like the dorky swimming caps, they stop my hair getting wet and means I don't have to spend forever when I get home trying to style it lol!:p

  • I have just joined up, this seems a good deal.. the gym in lancaster is great and most things are included in this price swimming, fitness classes.. plus you don't have to remember to cancel the contract... which is how i got stung last time when i was on the normal 40£ a month deal..
Down side you have to find 295£ pounds up front!
