what is the criteria for joining the force regarding tattoos. my son is in the army, and it seems compulsary for a soldier to have tattoos on their bodies. he has tattoos on is arms upper and lower, and a tattoo on each hand to the side where your little finger is.
He has a couple of years to do but is keen on joining the force in Traffic, or prison service.

wel lmy son has a carp, chinese fish on his lower arm, and has 'mum' 'dad' on the sides of his hands and a name of a girlfriend on his upper arm.
He does not have tattoes of union jacks etc, he has his name on his belly, and a lawn mower on his lower belly, 'your name' written on hias !!!! cheek.
fair enough he has a few tattoos on his body but nothing that would be racial or damning in any job.All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0 -
I can think of at least one policeman who has tattoos on his arm, but can't remember what of, but i would think his were coverable. Therefore I would think that the most problematic ones are the ones on his hands..0

From the entry requirements section of www.policecouldyou.co.uk
Tattoos
You should not have tattoos which could cause offence. Tattoos are not acceptable if they are particularly prominent, garish, offensive or undermine the dignity and authority of your role. Contact your chosen force if you have any specific concerns.
If your son is seriously interested in joining the police he really should be familiar with this site so that he can understand the basic requirements.0 -
My mate is a policeman and he has a huge tattoo on the inside of his forearm. He was already in the police force when he had it done, but let's just say it's very visible, and it's quite large. He may have had to ask permission before having it done but the fact that he has one, and he is still a bobby means it's probably more allowed than people think. Hope this helps!Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)0

If not acceptable he could always join Dog the Bounty Hunter, where tattoos appear compulsory!Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

He may have to wear long sleeves to cover them when others are in shirt sleeve order. Should not be a major problem.
I take it that you and he are aware that he will not go straight into traffic? He will need to do two years beat probation first.0 -
Are the police even recruiting these days?
According to this website there is not a single force in the country that is recruiting:

Well he still has to do another 2 years in the army anyway. so its not a rush at the moment. He will proberly apply when he has 6 months left to do, but saying that things change all the time, he may well sign up for another year. All the big powers they've silenced me.
