Tax rebate cheques - when will they arrive?

Options
I have been trying to get a rebate since April - (my information is there, 2nd post from bottom)

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1839065&highlight=tax

I did write them quite an angry letter and within a week they were on the phone, phoned my house phone, my mobile twice then left a message. I rang the lady back, lovely lady very apologetic (I did feel a bit guilty as my letter was quite horrible) She said she would get my cheques processed today (I'm getting 2) and they would be here in 7 days.

7 days have now past, in fact it's now more.

Should I ring up and ask whats going on? Wait another week and see? I know this is probably the best option (ringing up) but I really don't like phoning them up as they are never very helpful and I get easily frustrated.

Has anyone been promised they are 'on the way' 'will be with you in X days' and never arrived?

My OH is having major problems with his due to a previous employer not putting the correct figures on his P45. He was told 5-6 weeks ago to expect a cheque in the next 7 days and we are still fighting it now

We're making appointments with our local tax office at least once a fortnight taking things in that they say they haven't received

Good grief! I am not going to be happy if this happens to me. I have been messed about as it is (lack of information the tax office losing my stuff and not even telling me bla bla bla)

I have just started a new job and wont get a full pay until 10th October so I was relying on this money to tide me over.

If you phone them up, then you are likely to get frustrated again.

If a cheque has been issued via the system then you have to allow at least 14 days from the payment day until you receive it. If it has been authorised and not yet issued because its going through security then the person on the phone won't be able to help any further.

As you said that you rang the lady back phone that person back (if you have the number) and ask them for an update.

Personally 7 days to receive the refund in my opinion is too soon. Its normally 14 days, If two cheques are going out, it will start alarm bells going off, as normally its one cheque, with all the years added together. to make one repayment. So that would suggest it going through security.

  • 2 cheques arrived today, looks like my angry letter worked.

    Thanks for the advice folks.
  • I'm in a similar situation, although I applied for a refund for last year back in January. I've been told that a cheque was issued in March but "must have got lost in the post"; I've been trying to have it reissued since early June and although I'm regularly told that it's been authorised pending reissue and most people I speak to are apologetic and/or helpful, I'm still waiting some seven months after my initial application. I spoke to someone incredibly unhelpful today who told me that I "clearly failed to understand (their) procedures" and arrogantly informed me that there was no timeframe within which they needed to make payment.

I'm now living on fresh air and tearing my hair out. Can anyone help me to resolve this?
