Hi if you are interested in the social care field, but not the shift work, then you could consider applying for social work assistant roles with your local council. These have the added benefit of sponsoring you on a degree in social work through the OU while you work, however it is quite competitive. You could also consider work at local family centre's who foccu on working with vulnerable children and their families.
I worked in a call centre for 2 years to support my single parent family before deciding I had enough and went back to do a degree in social work. It was a struggle but you get there in the end and it seems like a million miles away now! Hiya,
before you commit yourself to a change have you thought about volunteering in the area you think you might like. it has 2 advantages.
1. will give you a taste of it and you can see if you like it - if not there are lots of volunteer roles you could try to find the right thing. all good organisations offer training and support which will give you a boost when applying. most ask for a minimum commitment, but will work with you to see if it will work.
2. gives you experience that you can use on any applications for a job in the field you like.
if you check out this volunteering site, will give you an idea of whats local.

I volunteered for years and it helped me get into my old career, i did all sorts of things and made some great friends, found out what i liked and didnt and also gave me direct experience in the relevant field. worth a shot0
