A canal boat mortgage?

Options
hi all,

This is my first post so hello to everyone. I was pointed here by a good friend (Sar, if you know her).

Anyway, i was wondering if any of you were aware of a way of getting a mortgage on a canal boat. I'm pretty sure I read about a Marine Mortgage somewhere, maybe with Lombard?

I'm a 22 year old Graduate, looking at a £17,000PA salary within the next few months and i have wanted nothing more in my whole life than to live aboard a canal boat.

Any advice is welcome. Thanks

Martin

Now I was going to say what Lender would be happy with their security floating up and down the country but I have just googled and

Looks like you will have to get a hefty deposit together!

I will watch with interest for other responses, as a narrow boat has always been a whimsical wish of mine!

I live on a narrow boat and I must say it is a great life , but it is not for everyone is it possible for you to hire a boat for a week to see how you get on .
The other thing to remember is that before getting a boat it is important that you get a mooring first and this is much more difficult than raising the finance for the boat .

It's important to get the finance from a reputable and trustworthy firm.

After all, you would not want someone who trys to......

...... sell you down the river :rotfl::rolleyes:

Yes, you may well end up being up the creek without a paddle.

  • I know a couple of people who are living on barges but they have down sized from a house.
A very important part is having a mooring, they are in short supply for as no point in buying one if you have nowhere to keep it.
