Russell Hobbs 10951 Dual Pot Slow Cooker

I am thinking of buying this slow cooker, but am unsure whether it is worthwhile, I am vegetarian (although not especially for ethical reasons so do not mind a little meat juice etc etc), but my other half is a meat eater. I thought that a split slow cooker might mean I can cook for both of us at the same time. Does anybody have any experience of this model ? is it workable, or just a gimmick and I would be better buying cheaper models etc (as elsewhere in the forum it seems to suggest that the more expensive models do not necessarily give any benefit. Any thoughts/ comments ?

I have this slow cooker :)

I bought it when it was on special offer with Amazon and liked the idea of the dual pot as there is only 2 of us so thought I could use it to do two different dishes and freeze the other - which I do!

One side of it is slightly smaller than the other (only marginally) and would work perfectly for cooking 1 meat dish and 1 non meat dish :)

It doesn't work if you wanted to do a savoury dish in one side and a dessert in the other ... as there is no seal to separate the two sides so the moisture/aroma drifts between sides! Altho that has not caused issues when I've done ratatouille on one side and chilli on the other etc :) But imagine it would be gross is you did a chilli in one part and rice pud in the other :rotfl:

Only thing that annoys me is I can't fit a whole large chicken in or a turkey leg because of the partition ... but this shouldn' be a problem for u as being a veggie you wouldnt want a meat dish like that!

  • Hi i have one of these and did do a spag bol in one side and a rice pud in the smaller side,no problems with swop over of flavours!! i thought i`d read in the manual that you could do a savoury and pud at the same time, the larger sized section you can`t get whole chicken in (or sponge pud to steam) like Burp says so we are going to get another for that reason but it is huge and if you split your savoury meal between the two sides as i`ve done that works well too if you need to use all the volume available.

Thanks for the replies, I had reviews saying similar. As I mentioned I am not a very ethical veggie, so a bit of "leaking" from the meat side, into the veggie side is not a problem for us. As I am new to slow cookers I thought I might experiment with this - which I think is about £24 at the moment with amazon, and if I do get on ok then I may buy a second slow cooker - but a cheap and cheerful model for cooking large batches for freezing or joints etc - that was my thinking anyway - have to see how it works in practice !!!
