Wages Cheque Clearing

I get paid monthly and normally, my bank clears my wage cheques straight away, as long as I produce a pay statement when paying it in. I bank with Nationwide.

Just popped into my local branch today, and they have said that they will stop clearing wages cheques from 2nd November as part of their policy. When I asked why, the Cashier stated that Northern Ireland is the only region that had operated this policy and that it was now going to apply all over the UK.

Has anybody heard of this, or does your bank/building society still allow you to clear your wages immediately?

Now this was a while back, but when I was paid like that I had to bring a letter written by my employer guaranteeing my wages would be covered.

I'm shocked employers still use cheques to be honest, I thought everyone was using electronic bank transfer by now:confused:

Worth getting together with other employees and then having a word with your employer about starting bank transfer.
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

realistically though a letter from your employer could be from anyone, get your employer to get on to internet banking and get the money put in by bacs - it is the 21 Century after all lol!
