Yesterday in despair - today 1st bit of good luck in months

Hi just want to share with you all - in the last 2 weeks my bank has taken £175 out in charges, I get paid weekly £210, yesterday I was in total and utter despair as I buy all the food and housekeeping and I owed the childminder £81 and car insurance was due out £20 so this left me with exactly £0 for food. Last night I just thought is this my life?? Is this a life? I cant even afford to feed my family.

I wrote to the bank on Tuesday and took letter by hand to local branch I printed off the info sheet from https://www.bankchargeshell and enclosed this, highlighting the fact that charges are illegal and excessive etc etc, at this point the charges were £140. I didnt hear anything so wrote another letter and took it down today with a copy of previous letter.

This afternoon someone from Manchester Care Team rang and waffled on and on an on about why they charge, he then mentioned the print out from Bank Charge 'Shell' I said it was Bank Charges HELL !!! think he got the message, he then decided he could probably help me!!!! and agreed the charges did seem a lot.

Anyway as a result they have refunded £166 (as a gesture of goodwill).

Yippee Yippee

Cant believe that I did it as usually wont say boo to a goose but armed with my new found information gather from this site I have the confidence to confront people with facts.

No they are not fair as OFT said they where not only the other day and that they should only be charging £12 and not £20 or £30 for each offence that you are getting charged for. So they hardly have a leg to stand do they.

Don't let them get away with Dotty Anne. A lot of people have had thousands back for bank charges.

I wish all the best in getting them back.

    Yours

I agree with broken hearted - have you had charges in the past that you can claim for?!

Hi I am with Natwest which I think maybe a part of the RBS, to be truthful I was terrified of writing but had the confidence of sending a quote from https://www.bankchargeshell.co.uk, to be honest I cannot believe that I have had a decent response. I sooo wanted to cry yesterday. I have only been with them for 3 months due to moving because of our dmp so I wasnt holding out much hope as a newbie banker for them.
  • another answer I joined the bank action group but found it a bit confusing but there is also the https://www.bankchargeshell.co.uk which I found a bit clearer and it was from this that I copied and pasted a quote. I was actually surprised that the bank hadnt heard of them.

I now feel I have the confidence to claim back £1500 from HSBC - - watch this space.

Cant believe I am sooo brave its like a new me, very weird. The thing is if we ALL fight back which I think is what Martin is all about we can do it and help everyone now and in the future. So I say to all of you have confidence, fight back even if nothing comes of it at least you know you have tried but lets all try and SUCCEED and be positive which is an enormous struggle when in debt.
