Only 2 days until my day in court..I was incredibly calm but now...OMG!!
Along a similar theme to a recent post, I'm currently paying bailiffs £85 a month to clear off my council tax debt from my old house with my ex. I've got another payment due on Friday (the day after BR) do I still need to pay this or will the remainder (about £114) be included in the BR? I've been paying them up until now cos they told me they'd take my household contents (even though I told them that eveything belonged to my new partner, which it does). They also told me that failure to pay could result in a jail sentence. Which I'm a bit dubious about now

Hi ya,
It can result in a prison sentance for non payment of Council Tax but there is a bit of a process to get there.
I stopped my last payment which was a month b4 we went BR. I just kept fingers crossed that they didn't ring. I suppose it's up to you really as I'm not sure that Council Tax bailiffs are classed as perfencial treatment as you could end up in prison...
As you say it's after your BR then you are not leagally responsible for it the OR will be. I called mine up and gave them our br numbers and they were fine.BSC 289A life lived in fear is a life not living!Proud to have dealt with my debts.0 -
Cant advise on the council tax thing, just wanted to reassure you that there is no need to be frighntened about going to court, I did it yesterday, it was fine, they were very proffessional people who deal with it on a daily basis, no one is going to bite your head off lol, hope it goes as best as it can for you.0

It's absolutely normal to feel this way. The actual court experience is nowhere near as bad as any of us managed to frighten ourselves into imagining. Good luck with your day.2019 MFW No. 74 £13700/£30000 (45.66%)
