Have you looked at Genesreunited? I think the basic thing is free and you can match up with other people who have the same names in their trees and see if it's the same people.

No, I havent looked there. Off to have a mooch, ta Squizz :D

  • My grandmother always said her maiden name was 'Brett'. When she died we found out that it was 'Brecht'! Don't blame her for keeping that quiet in wartime Britain.
(She also said her b'day was on Boxing Day but it turned out to be on the 29th).

Ohh strange! I've used it a bit ages ago but the only matches I ever got were ones that my mum and cousin had put in.

Very odd. Not sure if it's someone who knew her, or a relation. Have sent a message back, but doubt they'll reply - it's been 2 years since they tried to contact me

I asked my parents to write me a time line of things they remember...my mum made what she could into a scrapbook and they both wrote their childhood memories and important dates down in a little book to go with it....It's fab, I've got my great grandparents marriage and death certificates copied in there, a copy of one of my nans ration books, photos of people I've never heard of (didn't even realise mum had some of these photos) and learnt so many things (my dad was in a young offenders place for 2 weeks!!) It's lovely to have and I've started writing down the important bits from my life to be able to pass down to my girlies.....so I urge you all to do the same!

House is now clean and tidy and I've got the sneezes and feel "blugh"..going to sit down with a cup of tea, a film and a doze!
