council tax

hi looking for some advice if in wrong place please point me in right direction.In nov 2008 after paying my council tax online i noticed an extra £270 had been added.When i queried this with ct office they said that it was for the year 2002/2003,and that sheriff officers had been passed the tax for that year(very possible),they were collecting it that year through a wages arrestment order,said i found it hard to believe that i have got away with it for all of this time and was told i obvioulsy had,also that the full arrestment order had not been fulfilled.have not changed employers or addresses in the last 18yrs.they suggest i contacted the sheriff officers.since the tax yr ended for 2008/2009 it has just sat there on my account and nobody has asked me for a penny yet.any suggestions?i have no proof that this was never paid.any suggestions please?

your employer will have records going back 6 years, maybe worth asking them what has been paid.

thx just thought of that when i posted thread duh!loljust wondered why it just sits there and no-one looking for payment
