Hi.
When I hired a van from National Van hire (they do cars too!) last month they gave me the option of paying on a credit card or debit card. There wasn't any addtional supplement or % fee. The only difference was that the deposit (fuel and damage), circa £300 would actually be taken out of the account and refunded on return (approx. 3-5 working days). With a credit card they just swipe the details and deduct where/as/if necessary and if all is well the money never leaves the account. Obviuosly this will only help you depending on your bank balance, i went the credit card route.
One final thing, if you do decide to go with National phone them up and haggle the rental price. I got a days hire (again a van but the same premice for a car) for £50 including no excess cover.
Hope this helps.0 -
Thanks I've had a look but they are very very expensive.
I only need the car for one night but because it's over a weekend I have to return in on Monday costing £108.
I have a branch of sixti close to me which would only cost £26 but I don't have a B*****y credit card!Third time lucky on WW I hope :j

I thought that was pretty standard across the board with hire companies though - you have to hire for the whole weekend. (ie Sat-Monday)
Have you checked to see if sixt do accept DCs. Good luck!0 -
Have you tried Avis? I don't have a credit card but if you join 'Avis Preferred' scheme (at no cost) then you can hire a car with a debit card. I did this last year in the UK and this year in France. By registering with 'Preferred' you do have to register bank account details with them. Have a look at the Avis website and it should give all the details. Click here http://www.avis.co.uk/APsignup.aspx .Also if you are an AA member you can get 15% discount or don't forget to go throught a cashback site. I hope this helps.:cheesy:Debt Oct 2006 £42,215.21 at highest. Debt Today £0.000
