Dye Issues

Have dyed some curtains in the machine using Dylon, followed the instructions to the letter. The curtains have turned out great.
However, the machine is dropping navy dye onto clothes, 8 or 10 washes later, despite a couple of empty drum washes at a higher temp, cleaning all the seals I can get to and so on.
So,
1. how can I get the dye out of the damaged clothes ? Mostly white cottons, but patterned.
2. how do I get the residual dye out of the machine ?
Thank you ....

Hi there - I've had this happen a few times. Luckily for me its been on old clothes or bedlinen. You can get something from supermarkets called Dye off - or dye out or something - basically it removes colour run from clothes.
Regarding your machine - wash the machine at its highest temperature - 90 degrees is ideal. With powder and some bleach - the thin stuff (tescos value) will be fine).
Then when you've done this - put dark colours through first - hope this helps. xxMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Hi trinity_bleu,
I regularly dye clothes in my washing machine and thankfully have never had a problem like yours.
Dylon colour catcher or Dylon colour run remover is available in most supermarkets and should do the trick with the clothes.
Regarding the washing machine I would do as esmf has suggested, a wash with detergent at the machine's highest temp followed by a dark wash.
Good luck in getting it sorted out.

Thanks both. Hadn't realised colour run catcher would work. Brilliant!0

You might also try cleaning the filter as dye may be recirculating from there or the machine not being thoroughly rinsed. The dye stripping stuff is by dylon and is usually found on the rack with the dyes, near shoelaces and sewing stuff in most shops.0

I always run soda crystals through my machine on a hot wash after dyeing anything.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

left the machine doing a 95 degree, long as I could get it wash (2 hours 45 mins !) with some old towels in. Will check the seals and filter again tonight, and might give soda crystals a whirl too. There was no dye catcher or remover at Wilko's with the dye (where OH bought it and where he got sent to find some!)0
