Council Tax - Future house valuations

I think there is close competition between them, but of course, the DE cheers up it's readers with thoughts of Diana's return when the Martians have finished with her.
I take it that the Daily Express and Sunday Sport are linked then.....
Although I am no longer in Blighty, I must still admit to checking out the Express and Mail headlines via their sites for a chuckle0 -
So how does a home with double glazing, 2 car garage etc etc mean that they should pay more council tax? The reason Council Tax will go up is to fund the huge pensions that councils earn.0

Lincroft.......got a question regarding a couple of points you made in this thread and it relates to my fairly lengthy thread you were so good to help me with.
If the government DOES decide to re-evaluate properties I'm assuming most would stay where they were. I realise any extensions, conservatories added since the house was purchased will increase the chances of a change in band but what about folk like me?
My house, I still feel is incorrectly banded but they've pretty much said it's case closed and everything is in order.
If I was re-banded in a re-evaluation exercise would I thne be in a position to appeal and be within the 6month time limit they constantly reminded me I was outside the last time?
I realise they'll probably tell me it's still ok but if I can cause them some grief along the way then I'll do it.
So do you reckon there will be another massive surge in appeals if every property is re-evaluated?
thanks
PS...don't mean to hijack the thread with my own questions but I think it's relevant given the topic here

Council Tax doesn't fund local government pensions.
It's funded by Central government under the Act of Parliament (the Superannuation Act 1972).
If no-one paid council tax then all council employees who receive a pension would continue to do so.
There may be no clean water, sewerage treatment, road cleaning, litter picking, home helps, care homes, school meals, public nursery schools and dozens of other services I can't think of but pensions will still be paid.
My own authority receives less than 20% of its income from Council Tax but almost 70% from government funding and non-domestic rates.
By all means stop paying your council tax but all the council pensioners wil still get their pension whether you pay or not

darich - if a reval was scheduled for (say) 1 Apr 2011, then antecedent valuation date would probably be 1 Apr 2009, so VOA would band all dwellings based on their value as at 1 Apr 2009. Without doubt there would be a complete set of new bands, Band A (for example) could be up to £75K, Band B £75K - £100K etc. There will also probably be more bands.
In 1993 there was an actual date by which appeals had to be made if you were taxpayer on day when CT came into being - 30 Nov 93, so there were 8 months in which to appeal which would probably happen if there was a reval.
As there has to be a general election by May 2010, I cannot see any decision being made about a reval or local govt financing until after the election, which would probably mean Apr 2012 being the absolute earliest date.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

I agree with your reply there Darich, but at the end of the day that 70% from Government funding is mostly from other forms of taxation whether they be direct or stealth taxes. They get us one way or the other.....
Agreed!!
Taxed when we earn, taxed when we spend, taxed when we save.
Council tax may not provide the pension money but other taxes certainly do!!
