Canning/Preserving Meats & Poultry

My grandmother 'canned' (US term?) meats and poultry every year and I was thinking about giving it a try after running across this blog post. Of course I never paid any attention and wasn't interested when she was here, and now she's gone I wish I had!

Is this something that really isn't done here in the UK or am I just not finding UKcentric info about it? Does anyone here preserve meats and poultry in this way and have you been doing it long?

We were never once ill from anything Gran preserved, but still feel a bit cautious . . . :confused:
