Hi MorganleFay - if you're just about to move, then I would say the very LAST thing you want to get rid of is old blankets.
Use them to protect polished surfaces (eg tables); to wrap round mirrors, to stop things knocking together. I still have old blankets donated by the removal men from two moves ago - and that was in 1988...
ONCE YOU'VE MOVED - then I'd say THEN is the time to think about what to do with them - and I definitely second the lining curtains and the (patchwork) quilt or throw idea. All you've got to do is stitch some nice fabric to one side and some plain fabric to the other and you've got a (nice) blanket, a door curtain to keep out every draught, a thick table cover to protect your heirloom French polished table(!)...:D0 -
If they are really from WWII era they would be useful as props for a living history display so a local museum might welcome themIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Hi
I've still got my mother's old land army blanket and it's still being put to good use.

I'd line hanging baskets, insulate compost heaps, mulch veg beds, see if I could use to insulate anything in the house and if all else failed, I'm sure the local Cat's Protection League or similar would be really glad of them for the winter months.2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever

Sounds like my Grandad's old WWII army blanket which was kept in his shed (which was the old Anderson shelter!) and brought out on picnics and to the beach etc!
We later used it to give various members of the family the bumps on their birthdays and it finally ripped on my Mum's 50th :rotfl:Mum has patched it up and it's just sort of sittng in the shed now, but it comes in useful for family do's in summer when we've run out of seats!
Sorry not very helpful but made me feel nostalgicSometimes that mountain you've been climbing is just a grain of sand,

Thank you all SO much for all those good ideas. Of course ChocClare is right - now's not the time to be getting rid of them, so I'll air them well, pop them back in cupboard with moth stuff and think again when we get moved and they've protected all our stuff. I am very impressed by all those brilliant ideas which I couldn't have come up with, so thank you all very much indeed ! :beer:0
