looking for lab in London area to get blood tests

Hi,

I'm looking for recommendations for private labs where I can get some blood tests done.

To be honest, I have no idea how much these things cost when done privately in this country, but I need the results sooner rather than later.

Thank you

It depends what type of blood tests you're talking about?

If it is for medical purposes then there is no reason why a GP can't do them for you.

Thanks for the reply. They are specific blood tests for the purpose of medical diagnosis. I did see a GP who arranged for a blood test which i've had done already and for which apparently I need to wait for a week for the results to arrive. AFAIK these tests don't include the ones I want done now; I want these extra tests because of the appearance of some new symptoms to my problem, and my sister (who's a doctor and lives in another country) recommended I should get them. I will get another appointment with the GP but I'd rather not to have to wait another week for the test results if he orders the new tests. I don't mind paying as long it's within the realm of affordability for me, weighed by how quickly I can get the results compared to doing things via the GP route.

Most blood results will take a few days for results to come through and some more specific ones will take longer depending on where they have to be sent and how they are processed.
You should discuss again with your GP and you could ask about paying for the tests to see if they can speed them up. Usually unless they are actually done in the hospital that has the relevant lab attached it will still take the same amount of time unless marked as urgent.

Why is a week too long to wait?

Going back to your GP with your new symptoms and seeing if s/he agrees that you need more blood tests and requesting them is going to be faster and cheaper then finding a new private GP, going back through your history, getting a load of new bloods done and possibly a lot of other tests(cos hey you are paying)

Only difference is that being private, your new Gp( or his/her secretary )will ring you with the results instead of you ringing up for them. Could still possibly take a week for them to work their way through the system though as its not many private Gps who have their own labs, the work usually runs through the NHS ones

I know there's one in Wimpole Street but I can't remember the name of it, sorry :o
I have the same problem, my local hospital doesn't do the blood tests I need even tho they've been requested by GP so I've not had them until being sent to a consultant who ordered and arranged to pay for them privately.

Sometimes I wish people would just give a straight answer instead of conducting an entire cross examination <sigh> :)
I have my reasons but prefer not to delve into them, but basically I want these tests done whether or not the GP recommends them (and I'm not planning to see a private GP before getting them done; I can request an approval form from my doctor back home). Never mind.
EthelBloggs: there seem to be Quest Diagnostics on Wimpole street, maybe that's the one you were talking about. I think I'll just Google up different ones and just call them up with my enquiries.
Thank you all for your responses.

Edit: I just called up Quest Diagnostics on Wimpole street, and they charge 62 GBP for a comprehensive profile that includes all the tests I wanted. If you have your blood drawn there, it's an additional 25 GBP. Thought someone might find this info useful.

I wasnt aware any one did

All I said is you still have to find a GP to order the tests, your OP implied your GP wasnt going at the speed you wished and hadnt requested these tests so its only natural to think you are going private.

Your NHS GP is under no obligation to write you out a private lab test request. If you insist on it s/he can also insist on charging you private fees for his time. S/he may agree that yes you need the tests and still send them through the NHS system
