Moving abroad after bankruptcy

My wife and I are about to declare BR.
The amount of our debt has been causing problems for some time now and she can no longer stand the pressure. Once we are bankrupt she wants to take the kids and return to her own country to be with her family (she has no family here but is a British Citizen now).
If she purchased her air tickets and declared BR a couple of weeks before she was due to fly, would they make her cancel the tickets and refund the money? We are talking around £2500 for her and the kids, plus some money to live on when they get there.
Alternatively, would it be better for her to take the kids abroad and THEN file for BR? If she did this, I could be her power of attorney, but how would they communicate with her? Would they call her on the other side of the planet?

    Hello,

I know that it is possible to declare bankruptcy in absentia and there is one organisation that can deal with UK and Eu BR from abroad, but please do not take this as any recommendation to do this - they are called myvesta - no doubt they will charge you for the privilege.

They do not seize your passport in Bankruptcy, if that is what you have been told. Rather than you paying for the tickets, it may be better if her family purchased them when she is ready to go.

If you are planning to quit UK for good and I mean seriously no return you can renounce citizenship, which costs money and you must be able to find an adoptive country within 6 months - I've thought about this myself.

I would do a lot more research first in your case and talk to citizen's advice bureau.

    Thanks for the reply.

Her family do not have the money to purchase the tckets. She is from a very poor country and £2500 would be the entire family's salrary for a year. If wedon't purchase the tickets, there is no-one else who can, which means she is stuck here in the UK with no family but myself.
