Mobile phone contract??

Hi all,

Im just wondering, declared bankrupt last wednesday 19th and I am wondering what the chances would be of me obtaining a mobile phone contract??? Or is that a form of credit????

Im guessing no chance whatsoever until being discharged (and even then with some difficulty).

Just wondering thats all.

Thanks.

Well, its possible that the credit files are not updated yet and therefore you may be able to get a contract. Its not credit so you shouldn't have to mention it (unless the question is asked directly and therefore forms part of the contract).

You haven't a chance until after BR then!!! At the earliest.
  • OK. Thanks, I didnt realistically think it would be possible anyway to be honest!! Just a thought.

Try the likes of Three or T-mobile...they'll possibly offer something although its usually a rolling 30 day contract & you'll have to use your own handset

  • Hi phil, I will try what you have suggested, thanks, I take it I will have to inform them of the BR though??

Hi - this may be of use to you as i'm doing it myself.

Orange/Vodafone do a scheme where you have a 30 day SIM only rolling contract for 3 months, then aslong as you've made all payments on time etc they will give you a full contract with a phone with NO further credit checks. However with Orange i've been reading online that sometimes they ask you to pay towards the phone - as you aren't classed as a new customer. I'll of had mine 3 months with Orange as of next week, so i'll find out then I guess...

T-Mobile do a simliar thing based on internal scoring. my partner had a rolling sim with them and after about 2-3 months they decided she was eligible for a full contract with handset without further credit checks. But obviously this isn't guaranteed unlike the others.

The SIM onlys pretty easy to get aswell tbh...

It's just an idea anyway - i know 3 months is a long time to wait but still, if like me you want your own contract and have bad credit, then it's the only way really!

  • Hi RICK,

I will be definately looking into that then, Its just that for the past 3 years I havent had a single thing in my own name, its always been through the missus in her name, a shameful avoidance tactic im afraid.
Now im BR, I can finally start to be myself again without any worries at all, Im even excited about opening a basic barclays bank account (which at 31 years old is a little strange)!! :rotfl:

    Thanks.

Yep - it's pretty straight forward, the 3 months tend to drag though! I've got a week to wait and it still feels like it's taking forever.

I don't blame you at all! It's like a whole new world isn't it :D

And dont worry about informing them of your BR.....you ONLY have to disclose information IF your taking credit over £500 in one go......heard a few people while BR have been accepted on Three with a 30 day contract...then after 6mnths of good payment etc they will consider upgrading you to a proper full time contract with handset

    so worth a punt...
