debt passed on to collection agency

I have had a few debts passed on to agencies just as I am going BR, so the banks address is on the br forms not the DCA , does it matter or should I give the letters to the OR?, can you beleive one of the agencies has added on over £2000 to my debt already just as an upfront fee, how can they get away with this? I know it doesnt matter now but it makes me just glad I am going the BR route otherwise I just wouldnt be able to pay it back.

I put down the original creditors' address on all of mine, they had been passed on to so many DCA's I lost track. It doesn't really matter.

  • Thanks, I will keep the letters they are not very clear as to wether they are sold on or just acting on behalf of the credit card companies, but guess it doesnt matter now.

It is not their job to make things crystal clear, it is their job to try and use whatever tactics they see fit to get money out of you.

I would ignore any of their pleas and leave them to circle the drain along with all the other organisations you owe money to - apparently you mustn't favour a creditor to the detriment of others otherwise you will get it in the neck from the OR.

When is your BR due? Stay strong and hang on in there!

As Fiveyearplan says, put the address of the original creditor. In many cases, the initial DCA is actually the original creditor in disguise. For instance Blair Oliver & Scott are part of Bank Of Scotland's collections department (the initials rather give it away ;) ) and I understand that Mercers are a subsidiary of Barclays :)
