Birmingham County Court

Hi

Has anybody been made bankrupt at Birmingham County Court and what were the people like?

Have ours tomorrow at 10 and naturally we are feeling scared but will be happy to be debt free.

Good luck with tomorrow - I am wondering the same thing!

My experience so far has been to collect the forms and book/cancel appointments and the admin office have always been really nice and helpful.

Just be warned the office door for personal bankruptcies is not well marked, so when you get to the waiting room have a good scan around before blurting out "Where's the office for bankruptcies?" I did that got dirty looks from several people in the waiting room before noticing a small sign on the door...

Level 4. Very busy so expect a wait. The person who initially takes the forms in the little office is very thorough, don't panic though she will give you time to change anything you need to. Then it's over to the next office (same level 4) to pay the wonga, then you will see a person who goes over the forms again and you do the bible bit ( this bit can take some time). Then it's back to the other bit and you wait for a slot for the judge.
By this time it's the toilet, when you are called it's back down the lift with the usher into a massive room full of lawyers and normal people all waiting for whatever. You may not get to see a judge such is the volume of traffic ( I didn't) if not your name is called and you're back to level 4 to wait for your papers ( more toilets) 15 mins later, you get the papers and then you're done. I was there for 4 hours but you may get lucky. There is nothing to it, it is an almost surreal experience.

Once outside you are feeling as if nothing really happend ( possibly) or you're jumping about with joy. Good luck, you won't need it.
