Sorry if this is too specific a question but i dont know who else to turn to!
I recently started a new job and they want to send me to the US. New York no less for a 13 week secondment. I have been advised that I will need to apply for a J1 category visa.
Will my bankruptcy have any bearing on my eligibility? I have not told my employers that I am BR and I would be gutted if it came to light through this application.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

It shouldn't make the slightest difference. You will be sponsored by your employer who will presumably be paying for your stay anyway.

By rights it shouldn't matter unless you are charged with looking after financial aspects of the business. You will need to check your contract of employment to make sure there is no Bankruptcy clause.
As far as a visa is concerned, if there was some form of criminality proven in the events leading to the BR and you have been convicted then I believe that the US could refuse it.
Your best bet is to call the American Consulate to clarify it, use an assumed name and a public phone if you want to be totally anonymous.0 -
Thanks guys. There is no BR clause in my contract and I have not lied about my situation. I simply was never asked so i didnt volunteer the information.
I will make an anonymous call and find out for sure on Monday.
