    Hello
To save money further I recycle the (soapy) used water from the bathroom basin and place it ,via a bucket, in the toilet cistern so it refills, just after flushing, with the used water.
    Any comments appreciated.

    Hy
I don't wish to sound critical but don't you think that this is taking it too far ?

I am all for saving money but if the water companies fixed leaks, replaced outdated systems etc maybe people may not resort to these types of measures.

It seems that yet again, the emphasis is placed upon the individual to reduce waste rather than the company itself.

    Regards
    Hello again

It's criminal that expensively treated water is used for the toilet.
At the minimum all new builds should have grey water systems installed.

    It really isn't that simple.

You will need tank storage facilities for the grey water(your toilet has very limited capacity)

An electrical pump system with separate pipes to send it up to the toilet.

A sensing system to fill the toilet with clean water(from different pipes) if there is no grey water.

Have you seen the blockages that can occur, even in large diameter sewers, from oil/grease from washing up water and for that matter soap/detergents? Imagine what it would do to the inside of toilet cisterns/pipes?

I imagine it would do to them what it does to the U bend under my sink. Not a pretty sight!

Yes Cardew, see your point. It will have to be rainwater.

Finally heard back from my water authority - I'm being charged £400 a year but, because I stupidly failed to move in at the beginning of the chargeable period, my 6-month bill has to be paid over 3 months (of course). Hence £68 a month.
