  • Thanks everyone, i will mention it to the jobcentre when i go in next week.

I do really need it to be GCSE's as the job's i am interested in like receptionist's and that kind of office job all ask for 4 GCSE's A to C grade that include english and IT so other courses are not really an option
  • Can you not get a waitressing job or something similar? you don't need good GCSEs for that and then you could fit your hours around school? if you worked less than 16hours you'd still be entitled to benefits.

If you read the details carefully, they often say "or equivalent" and, if they don't, it will still be acceptable. Many universities will accept them for goodness sake, so some little receptionist job won't have any problems!

Oxford and Cambridge Universities accept equivalent Maths and English ;)

  • Some do not say equivalent it seems companies employing people now have so many applications that they can ask for more. So people with no experience or qualifications never get anything.

Even if it doesn't say equivalent, I'd say it was worth applying but spelling out what your qualification is equivalent to. A large number of the work force left school before these new-fangled GCSEs were introduced, the Scottish system doesn't have them at all, employers can grasp the notion of 'equivalent to'!

And don't on your supporting statement say "Although I do not have ..." - better to say "I have ... which is equvalent to a GCSE grade C"
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • Ok thanks well i will look into finding english and maths that are equivalent too GCSE this week. Even doing something now will keep me from being so bored.
