Hi guys - thanks for helping me out with my umbrella decision...
... now I'd like a dictaphone that can have the files downloaded onto my laptop, so I can play them back through Windows Media Player or similar.
Thanks folks!

Don't know what your budget is but I have this one and it's great, http://www.johnlewis.com/230447633/Product.aspx0

Thanks! That is a little high, but I'll see what else Olympus has to offer.
Edit: As a rough guide, £25 or under would be about right

Have you checked to see if your phone has a voice recorder on it?What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Hi Jane - my phone doesn't have a voice recorder on it, but my old digital camera does, and I have used this successfully for interviews in the past. However, many of my interviewees have commented that they find it a little odd and distracting talking to a camera, even though I obviously tell them to ignore it and to talk to me instead! :rotfl: In some cases I have also had to demonstrate to them that I'm not secretly filming them, even though the lens is pointed in the opposite direction and not even operational! So this is why I would like a professional-looking dictaphone

Safesound - I have taken a look on eBay and got an idea of what's about, but I'd also like to know what the lovely MSE folks have seen on their travels and if they have any recommendations. Not sure what your link is trying to refer to. I hate to say it, but it looks a bit dodgy to me. Sorry, if it's not!

It was just a link to a item on eBay that I thought suited your needs but I used a "make a link shorter so people dont have to copy and paste" website to condense the link. I just tried it now and it doesnt work anyway LOL. Sorry I wasnt clearer in my other post but I was pushed for time and then forgot I'd posted it.
It was supposed to take you to item number 230361505838 :A:A:A:A:A:A0 -
Ah brill, thanks
I use !!!!!!! dot com for all my link-shortening needs, if that helps.
Edit: Ah fudge it, why doesn't MSE like that well known exceptionally small url website?0
