Agghhhh

And it was all looking so good on the DFW front. I had managed to budget everything well so that I had money for all the bill and repayments and petrol money. I felt really in control and you know what - it felt good!

Unfortuneately my toothy pegs have other ideas. I have one wisdom tooth coming through. It's not coming through properly (I don't think any of them ever will as there is just not enough space at the back of my mouth). And a couple of days ago it started to make my jaw ache. This turned into throbbing and pain if I eat on that side of the mouth, if I open my mouth too wide, chewing in general. I can't bite into things at the moment, it hurts too much. So a little bit of exploration with my finger (which hurt too!) sitting at my desk at work. And I think I have discovered I have an infection there now too.

Oh brilliant.

I knew that's not a potentially good sign. So looked on the net and found I have every single symptom for an impacted wisdom tooth with infection.

I am 25. I've not been to the dentist since I was 18 (I know I know!). Part of the reason was I went to uni and missed my appointment with the dentist at the time, when I tried to re-register at uni they told me it would be £45 to register with a dentist (?!). When I got my medical form through (to exempt you from charges as a student) I found I was earning too much part time and still had to pay for the first £180 or something - which quite simply was too much so I left it. Didn't have any problems with my teeth anyways (until now of course!)

When I left uni, I wasn't in a particularly well paid job and my student days debt was becoming a problem.

So I just called my OH dentist practice and have an emergency appointment for tomorrow at 4 pm which will cost £15....plus any work that needs doing! I am sure they will tell me about all the fillings I need tomorrow.

Sorry for the ramble!

    Thats awful *hugs*

I might have to start looking at dentists, haven't been for about 18 months and my dentist is about 18 miles away. I am due wisdom teeth even though the dentist said I haven't got enough room in my mouth to have any

Go to your local hospital and have it taken out there. thats what i did for the exact same thing some months ago. And it was free. It wasnt the nicest setting, and there were students galore all staring at my manky gob, all pulling thier faces.

When some student asked me why I hadnt been to a dentist for over a year, I said I cant afford it, they said "why not" I replied to her " how much is your starting slary again?" that shut her up the jumped up little witch! Mwhahaha
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Love it! I don't know about the hospital - now I have booked the dentist I'll see what they have to say. I'm hoping they'll give me the antibiotics and that'll be it...but I don't think it will be!

If they say it needs to come out then I'll think about going to the hospital...

    eek!

By 'hospital' you mean dental hospital.

There are only about 10 of these in England, so not everyone will have a 'local' one.

For 'normal' hospital oral surgery departments, you have to be refered in by a dentist to have teeth out. I would have thought the vast majority of dentists would refer you though, unless the extractions were very easy.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
