If you are off with Schizophrenia I would imagine its only a matter of time before they dismiss you for capability.
unless it can be managed through medication? just wondering.
anyway, if it is a meeting under their 'attendance policy' it will say so in the letter.
I have a member of my team who is long term sick and after the first 3 months when we called each other, our company policy is that I visit her once a month. So it might just be that.
I would also, however, start thinking about what sum of money you woud want if they offer you a compromise agreement i.e. a 'no fault' way of leaving the company. How long would 3 months salary tax free last you?Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -

As horrible as it is there is no likiehood of you being able to return to work long term and perform the tasks without regular illness as well as not being able to make reasonable adjustments.
I think you're jumping to conclusions there Sue. Many people who have suffered from schizophrenia are able to return to work once the condition is under control.
Good luck fishcake, I hope things work out well for you.0 -

You have no idea what you are talking about. A family of mine member has schizophrenia and through medication and the correct type of support is able to work and function just fine.Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0 -

If they didn't include this then EITHER it isn't a disciplinary-type meeting (ie one which could lead to dismissal) OR they don't know what they are doing and are not following proper procedure which is something to remember if things didn't go well for you.0 -

Yes, as I mentioned in my post.......there's a few of them about. Lets hope the OP can see through their narrow minded idiocy.0 -
Meeting's with employees during long absecences are normally procedure, most likely checking how you are and how you feel and when you think you'd be able to return. So as hard as it try not to worry yourself too much about the meeting. They took their time "speaking" to you. mine would want to speak to me on the first day of sickness, a few days later and if it was longer term, very soon after that. You have been off sick with "mental illness" for quite some time. I assume you mean stress? Theres a lot of it about.
Unless you have a condition which is covered by the disability discrimination act then an employer can take the view that they wish to dispense with your services are you are not fulfilling your contract of employment.
A stack of doctors sick notes has little bearing on the matter and simply confirms his opinion of your condition. They are not licences to have more time off work.
Has your employer been in regular contact with you since May and if so,what was the outcome of such contacts?
Is it your intention to keep drawing pay during your pregnancy then leave anyway?
At least you're having one. Which reminds me, Psst not all employers follow procedure. My ex-employers just sent letters to an out of date address and when i didnt reply (for obvious reasons-i didn't know) they claimed i'd resigned..i have a feeling it was to do with my mental health problems but they got rid of me just before my years service was up. And your assumption that mental illness (really-was there any need for the quotation marks?) is just "stress" is wrong,Anyway...
Definetly have someone go with you to the meeting if it will put your mind at ease. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Bear in mind that if you want to claim statutory maternity pay you need to be working from weeks 17-25 of your pregnancy as this is when SMP is calculated. If you are not being paid you won't be able to receive SMP. You might be able to claim Maternity Allowance though, depending on how long you have been working for.0

As I understand it schizophrenia is covered by the Disability Discrimination Act, 2005:
http://www.dwp.gov.uk/employer/disability-discrimination-act/what-does-the-law-say/who-has-rights-under-the-act/
I also believe that any employer seeking to terminate the contract of an employee covered by the Act has to be very careful to follow company procedure, otherwise an employment tribunal is likely find in favour of the employee.0 -

This is a very important point.
However, I think an employer has to be formally told about your disability otherwise it is difficult to argue that they have discriminated against it.
As I said in an earlier post you do need to get some advice about the situation. It is worth checking if your house or car insurance provides any legal cover otherwise ACAS or the CAB. Some solicitors will offer a free half hour initial meeting. If you are well prepared you can gain a lot in half an hour.
