What experience do you have which qualifies you to assess? Have you already done an NVQ?

So if you want to assess management at that level, use part of your redundancy payment to fund your new qualification.

Can you find your own candidates to assess? That's probably the most difficult part of getting A1.

Do you have other industry qualifications? For example have you worked in the care sector?

Your right and have looked to that but as you say getting the candidates is hardest I have worked in retail, customer service, warehousing, projects and business improvement

I don't think you will find funding for the areas you would be assessing. Someone asked a very similar question (earlier this month, I think) and I don't believe anyone came up with a funding stream. Sorry.

Have you thought about approaching FE colleges that have won contracts for Train to Gain? Many are looking for workplace assessors and will pay for you do your A1 and A2 so you get paid (admittedly at not a very good rate - the college I work at pays between 17 and 21K, while another local college pays £500 per learner you are assessing) AND get support to do your assessors awards.

There are nationwide shortages of workplace assessors, especially in manufacturing and warehousing.
Don't judge people on they way they look, the way they speak or what they're called because they can't help that.

Only judge people on what they say and what they do.

I looked into doing it and it was about £500 plus I needed two people doing NVQs to assess as part of my training. I'd contact your local college or adult training provider for more info.

The money is crap though by the way.
  • Your best bet is with a private training company, that's how I did mine and that way it is fully funded. Don't look for Train to Gain contracts, they are being fazed out this year and have already been drastically reduced. Loads of companies take on unqualified assessors. You would be best to register with a specialist recruitment agency such as Strawberry Recruitment, A1/V1 recruitment, Skillsource or Matchtech. Contracts are new this month so there are lots of companies recruiting! Hope this helps!

And yes, wages aren't great, but you do get a pretty good life style and benefits!
