Defrosted Salmon Fillets - Edible?

I bought some Birds Eye Salmon Fillets on Tuesday and then realised I had no room for them in my freezer so they have been sitting chilled but defrosted in the fridge, If I cooked these tonight would they be safe to eat?

If they were frozen when you bought them and have been in your fridge ever since I think that I would chance them, unless they smell really dodgy.

Why on earth wouldn't they be? I always defrost frozen fish before cooking it:confused:

Because they've been defrosting since Tuesday ;)

DPG - this is a tricky one - if it were meat, I'd say it would be OK. Fish usually tells you if it's not fit, so give it a look and a sniff and trust your own senses :D

  • Thank you all for the replies, I have since found a website, quoted below, which gives an indicator of fish freshness so I think I will be having salmon tonight :T, tastes good when it is fresh, even better when it is free as it was a TMF from Birds Eye.

    Fresh salmon fillet should have:
    • Consistent red colour - when it starts going bad, it will have a blotchy surface.
    • Shiny and dry surface - when it starts going bad, it gets a slimy greyish coating.
    • Fresh odour - it can also smell like melon or cucumber. If it's bad, it will smell rotten, like a sour dishcloth.
