My own designer chook coop - what would you include?

I've been overwhelmed by the variety of coop designs available to buy and would seriously like some advice from experience keepers about what a coop does and does not need so I can design and make my own.
I have a rectangular site, 3m x 2m, I'd like 4 birds and the chickens will have to stay in the coop/run on the days I work. The site is south facing, but gets no sun from Nov-Mar owing to a mountain! The site is protected from the worst of the wind but it can get very, very cold up here - 900ft above sea level. It's also the wettest place in Wales (honestly).
Should I insulate?
How do I keep the damp away?
Is it possible to fox proof in such a way that the chooks are totally safe in the run area?
What pitfalls have you experienced that you can help me avoid?
What are your must haves?
I look forward to your responses, hopefully you will all help me to design the right coop.

Hi Ifonly,
I posted here after doing a search of the forum and reading through "lets keep chickens" I was hoping that some of the people who keep chickens would reply with useful ideas as to what a chicken coop/house needs.
Thanks for answering
