Leaflet distribution

I just had a flyer through the door looking for leaflet distributors, ie posting things through letter boxes. I just wondered if anyone has tried it, and whether its worth having a go. I'm guessing that most of these things have about the same pay and conditions. I've got the time, and a need for extra dosh, but don't want to be taken for a ride.

some of these are scam and those that arent often pay badly. I know someone who runs one of these and he pays well below min wage0
-
plus you often dont get paid unless you make sales from the leaflets.Total payment recieved from GPT etc as June: £0.000
-
That's about what I expected, really. Crafty one about no pay if no sales, though. I suppose that is to make sure that you actually deliver, and don't just chuck them in the nearest bin.0

Not always the case.

I did that, and the upshot is, payment for 1000 houses is approx £30 to £35, depending on the number of leaflets to each house. This should take, apparently, about a week, part time. Seems to be a fair sized company with a lot of franchisees, who presumably cream off their share also. Probably make more begging......0 -
Dont discount it immediately. 1,000 house for £35. I have done this before and it takes about an hour for 180 houses, normal estate, separate driveways etc, some semis. So 5 .5 hours. = £6.36 per hour.
Normal rate for a one off leaflet is £30 per thousand. so if you are being asked to delicver maybe 3 leaflets then you would be entitled to ask for more, perhaps £45 per 1,000 which makes it £8 per hour. epends on the type of house and of course the speed that you go !0 -
This is about normal wages.
Minuses - can take a long time !
rural areas with long sweeping drives are a pain
the cold and the heat can make things hard ( I broke a rib delivering in the snow in Feb!)
can be a bit demoralzing
can work out rubbish money per hour
Pluses - you can do as many 1000s as you can fit in that week
you work the days and times you want
you can fit in around kids, social commitments, full time job etc..
you get paid quite quickly so if you look at it as an extra income instead of analysing amount per hour it is a nice drop in the bank weekly or fortnightly
you can easily build it up to your own business and outsource work to make more money
if you get housing estates or flats, you can deliver loads in record time!VR repayment £404 £156.02 PAID

if you can get with 2 agencies? you could double your wages if you deliver both at the same time. Or combine with free newspaper deliver...get paid twice for one delivery so to speak.Beer meter E[.\.......]F0

I respect the opinions of those who have actually done it, and I'm impressed by your profit calculations. It's so easy to dismiss out of hand, and yes, I should have sat down and worked things out properly. Suitably chastised!
Most of us have to start at the bottom, and even someone who has aspirations to start a franchise ought to acumulate some experience first, so in that sense, I suppose it could be considered even more of an investment. Mind you, I suppose that the fact that drones are being recruited in this area means that someone has got in first! Still, you have to start somewhere. Many thanks for the input, it is certainly food for thought, after all, there are not many avenues for the retired, or single mums.0 -
Most people dismiss leaflet distribution - several members of my family were out of work and I offered them distribution as a temp way of money but all refused because it was beneath them !
To me,money is money. If you have the chance of earning £10 an hour doing something else, I would recommend you do ! But if you are like a lot of the population and need extra cash, it is great ! Some of the people I used had a goal in mind - extra credit card payments, earn enough to pay electric bill, save for a foreign holiday etc.. it makes it slightly easier to do the drops!VR repayment £404 £156.02 PAID
