I want to colour my hair myself, I have mousey brown hair with hilights. I can't afford to go to the hairdressers so I was thinking about using Clairol Nice and Easy No 102 Light Ash Blonde, I have about 2 inch roots showing, will the colour be okay? I don't want to use a colour that has a red tone. TIA.

All the ash blond tones do have red in their spectrum. I used to colour my hair light ash blond and my hairdresser mentioned the red tones in ash blond.0

Ohh nooo,I thought ash blonde looked almost grey like :rotfl:Anybody suggest a blonde colour that's not reddish at all? 0 0

I was always under the impression ash tones counteracted any red tones as it was more of a blue colour? 0 0

If you have natural red tones in your hair, you are likely to look totally washed out and ill if you deliberately choose to take them out with a grey-yellow. But, hey - it's your choice. The baby blondes would probably suit better.
And you will need to redo your hair far more regularly with an overall colour than if you just waited to go to the hairdresser or got a highlighting kit from Boots.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll 0 0

Good point re having to do it more regularly, I'll get a highlight kit and get my mate to do it for me.Jojo_the_Tightfisted wrote: »If you have natural red tones in your hair, you are likely to look totally washed out and ill if you deliberately choose to take them out with a grey-yellow. I use Clairol Nice and Easy Semi-Permanent dyes every 3-4 weeks. They are very easy so isn't too much hassle. I'd recommend them for their colour as well. I'm naturally a light-mid brunette but often use the darker blonde dyes as it brings out the golden tones in my hair. From my experience with the range of colours that Clairol do, their Ash blondes dyes are quite neutral-cool and only really accentuate red tones if you have them in your hair naturally (As I do with mine). You say you are 'mousey brown'... so I can't see that using an ash colour would make red. I think it would more likely bring out any gold/platinum blonde tones in your hair and overall make it look brighter and more vibrant.
