how do I measure my kid's feet

I have looked everywhere on the net and cannot find a guide or picture sizing grid that I can print out so I can measure my kid's feet at home. I do not have time to go to a shop and have them measured by machine.... so someone please help.... need to get some school shoes....

I believe that any responsible parent would make the effort and take the time to have their [STRIKE]childrens[/STRIKE] kids feet measured properly at an independent shoe shop. A childs feet should be cared for properly.

Although children are measured, shoe sizes do vary. If you can't go into a shop how are you going to get them shoes? If you order them on line, they're not necessarily going to fit them. I pop into shops and try shoes on and even in one shop I sometimes have to try three different sizes to find some that fit correctly. I know it can be annoying trying shoes on and sometimes the shops leave a lot to be desired, but I do find that my children's feet vary widely and they both have to have different styles, sometimes the advice I receive instore is very helpful. By the time you've ordered various pairs, tried them on and sent them back you would have been better off popping into a shop. I always find it okay as close to opening time as possible.

In March this year I took both my children to be measured at THREE CLARKS shoe shops. All three gave me slightly different results.... the reason I went to three was because my daughter wanted a particular pair of of Clarks' shoes that cost over £35 and both the first and the second Clarks shops did not have them at all. In the third Clarks shop I had to settle for a size that was still not correct.... so please do not tell me how important it is to get my childrens feet meausured properly......I just want to start measuring her feet myself so I can keep an eye on her and not have to listen to so called experts !

Do you have a Brantano near you? They have the feet guages hanging up in the shop, so I just help myself and measure my children's feet. I only fit my children's shoes myself though because I was a Saturday girl in numerous shoe shops for years and was trained to fit them. Years later I still remember how to do it.

I so agree...please see my response above. Why does everybody assume that I will be buying the shoes online...... I always buy shoes in shops with my daughters present! I was simply shocked at the varying shoe sizes I have been given in the past so thought I would save myself some time by measuring their feet myself at home before wasting so much time again.....

Exactly why I said to go to an independent shoe shop. See if you can find one that sells Start Rite shoes. There is a thread on this board somewhere about people who hate Clarks shoe shops. Sorry, I wasnt trying to make a dig at you but I have seen so many childrens feet ruined by parents who bought shoes because they looked good rather than protecting the childs feet as they should do.
    Good luck

Thanks for this...... so nice to know I am not the only parent who has had real problems shopping in Clarks!...
  • If you go on the Startite website you can order a foot gauge to measure their feet, the same as the ones they use in the shop and then buy the shoes online.....and before anyone starts:rolleyes: I am not lazy, my son is autistic and cannot deal with shoe shops at all...or any shops for that matter
