sticky bread recipe

My nan used to make what she called sticky bread it was very moist and we had it sliced with butter on, it was an all in one method boil up the fruit sugar and butter then add flour there was no weighing it was done per cup, it made a fairly big cake, does any one know of a recipe, this came from the 60's.

    This is the one my grandma used to make-
    put 1lb mixed dried fruit, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup water and 4oz marg in a saucepan . Bring to the boil and simmer for 5 minutes.

    Leave overnight. Next day add 1 egg and 2 cups SR flour.

    Grandma used to bake hers in a round cake tin but it did have a tendency to sink in the middle (tasted alright though). I divide the mixture between two lined 1lb loaf tins and bake in a low oven-about gas mark 2or3-for 11/4 to 11/2 hours.

    Test if they are done by sticking a skewer in the middle-if itcomes out clean they are done.
