Working Offshore

Im new to this forum so be gentle.

Im finishing my degree and have a couple of offers of employment, working offshore in the Hydrographic Survey industry. This involves working offshore for 6 mnths of the year. There have been various rumblings from the graduates working there who graduated last year that they are expecting a hefty tax return (if not all tax). Is this true? or is there anywhere I can clarify the status of this?

I don't Believe it personally but its good to put my mind at rest.
