For the first time ever my SKY talk direct debit may have been refused by my bank of 22 years, and possibly a loan repayment. I am v anxious about this as I haven't been in this situation before - I am mortified. I feel too ashamed to check if this is the case and have been worrying a lot. Any advice?

Don't panic and no need to feel ashamed.

You need to check for sure if its bounced. If it has they are often represented for payment again after 7 or 14days. If you won't have the funds then better to contact SKY direct and ask if you can pay by another method when you have the funds. Tackling things is better than hiding from them twinkle - and is necessary to minimise the bank charges.

Nobody here will judge, so be brave, sit down with some coffee and do a full statement of affair (links in the stickies).

  • Don't worry, no need to feel ashamed, it happens to the best of us. You really need to get on and check your bank account and see what is going on.

If you are struggling to make ends meet post and SoA and we'll help.

Thanks for the replies - I will contact the bank now and see how things are on my account and let you know how I get on. I will also post my SOA on here asap.

I contacted my bank automated phone service and they have thankfully paid the sky, loan, but unfortunately also took £147.00 in fees!! To be honest I am glad they paid these, as I'd rather work it out with the bank! I will have to get my thinking cap on today and work everything out. I will post my SOA on shortly and you can see what you think - thanks:A

    Twinkle,

after a 22 year unblemished bank history I'd phone the bank and apologise that you forget to check you had the funds available, it's never happened before and please can I have my money back as I won't do it again.

Agree with Kissjen, definatley worth asking for them back, or a proportion of them (at HSBC branches if you appear sorry and ask they will refund a charge every 12 months, or if you have several charges they will usually refund half the total - well they used to anyway)
