Now start Internet Explorer: does it work now? If so and it has loaded your home page, close Internet Explorer and go back to that same auto setting and remove the tick and click OK.
Restart IE and see if it finds the connection consistently.0 -
I don't want to put a downer on everything but but I also had problems with an inspiron 1300 and wireless internet connectivity with a netgear router(an mr314 model in my case). The connection was intermittant, sometimes the router signal was strong but there was no internet or got internet for a few minutes before losing the router connection(had to reboot the router to get it back each time it went off). Basically netgear router + dell wifi = inconsistent connection. I borrowed a friend's belkin router and have not had any problems(that was not my fault) whatsoever. I'm sure that there are thousands of peeps out there who do not experience any difficulties with netgear and dell wifi but perhaps it might be an idea for you to see if you have any mates who would be willing to lend you a different brand of router for you to try.0

I have a Dell 1300 and it works fine with my Netgear 834G, but WiFi is a funny thing!
With apologies if any of this already known - On the Dells they have a little icon bottom right that looks like a fan - this is the wireless indicator and I assume it is showing green for you (different colours mean different things - think traffic lights - and the more the fan is coloured in, the stronger the signal). Double clicking this opens up the Intel Proset wireless dialogue box. I find this the easiest place to set up the connection.
All available networks are seen in the bottom pane. Double clicking on a found network will bring up the connection dialogue.
If it asks for security information, then you need to refer back to the Router to look at what security you (may) have set.
If it asks if you want a one-time connection or to set up a profile, then the window will also tell you the connection has no security. You can then connect by 'Next' ing through the menus, or by a One-time only connection.
However, if it has no security, then IT NEEDS SOME!
Let us know where you get to...

Thank you all for your continued patience!
