Remember that these are not fully hardy, and especially don't like to be soaking wet for extended periods in winter.

Leave them in pots and move them into shelter from Dec to April and only plant out when much older/larger and in a sheltered place.

These are probalby fast grown in a warmer country, and not even aclimatised to the UK yet.

But a good price though - just a shame if they all end up dying

I've planted these in the ground in quite a sheltered location, and put cloth weed compound down and stones on top. Should keep the root ball warmer and stop as much water getting to them.

If i wrap the fronds in fleece in winter and leave them be in the ground do you think they would be ok?

The probelm may be that they are not really aclimatised yet, and so need even more care/protection for the first few winters.

You would need to wrap the fans quite well, but this may be impractical. IME, the fans are fully or partially burnt every winter, so its best to concentrate on the centre growing stalks and new ones come up quickly from April onwards

These are one of my favourite palms and well worth looking after, IMO

    Thanks for advice.

I'll wrap the entire stem from end of October onwards? Like you say if the fronds get burnt I can prune them off and get the next seasons growth from the top.
