Hi,
My DH and I went Bankrupt this morning.
It has been a long stressful journey to reach this point but we have battled through and the deed is done.
I was never expecting to feel 'happy', I just feel sad that we had to go BR,..... BUT a funny kind of relief that the court process is all over with and we have a new beginning to look forward to.
We got to court when it opened at 8.30 (its a drop in service), waited for 'the girl who does the BR's to start' and at 9.30 she called us to the counter, she was friendly and commented on how well our forms had been filled in (well it only took us 3 days to complete them!!!) she checked our forms over, we swore on the bible, we signed and paid our fees and was told to go downstairs and wait to be seen by the judge. NOW I started to feel more nervous.
I had visions of an old bloke in robes and wig however our Lady judge couldnt of been nicer. She said she had looked at our BR forms, could see we had taken professional advice and that on our level of income we couldnt possibly make any inroads to our debt so she would be granting us our BR orders. She expressed concern over our dealings with Debt Advice Network and hoped we hadnt paid any money to this company who had let us down so badly. She was so kind and I walked out in tears!!
We then had to wait to speak to the OR, a brief phone call confirming our details and what bank acc we used for wages etc. He then said he had about 30 cases to deal with so would be in touch either by letter or phone in the next couple of weeks.
We left court at 11.15 feeling numb. As the day has worn on I am starting to feel a huge sense of relief. Ok we have the OR interview to deal with, the probable loss of our car and the worry over our home but we no longer have to deal with creditors hounding us, phone calls every day and endless letters demanding payment.
A new beginning awaits.......
Thankyou to all the people who post on this forum, your advice and experiences have meant so much to me.:A

Well done. Glad it wasn't too much of an ordeal xThere used to be a street named after Chuck Norris, but it was changed because nobody crosses Chuck Norris and lives.0

Well done on facing the difficult step...its a tough challenge & the feeling of numbness seems to be the norm.....but now you are both able to move on.
