I'm a first time buyer and I am having a mortgage arranged by an HSBC broker with Abbey. The application has been submitted, but now I'm fretting that things aren't moving fast enough. How long is it going to take until I get confirmation of something? Thanks.

This doesnt help but...how long is a piece of string. Some lenders are faster than others, some applications are more complicated than others, perhaps one of the mortgage brokers will be able to comment on how fast HSBC/Abbey are.
All I can say is that I didnt go with Abbey, but applied on a Friday and paid the valuation fee that day, valuation happened on the tuesday, full written acceptance by the following friday - I think that is pretty quick though.
The whole process is pretty stressful, but try not to get too wound up about timescales that you might not be able to alter.
Goodluck with the application, house and the move.0
