I am concerned what to put on my CV as my job title on my contract is different to the title I held. My contract says Team Leader but I was actually employed as a departmental manager. My title changed again, but as I was on the same salary, no change was made to my contract. I am worried if I put a job title that is different to my contract, that it could course problems when it comes to obtaining a reference. Any advice would be much appreciated.

My last job was as a supervisor, but the process of becoming a supervisor was very informal. I didn't receive a new contract and was never officially given the title of supervisor. I also never received the pay rise I was supposed to, but that's a different matter.
Anyway, I put supervisor on my CV, because that's the job I was doing. As long as your description of duties and responsibilities is accurate, I don't think the job title you put should matter.
Having said that, I know that the manager I give as a reference will not question the fact that I put supervisor, so perhaps you should check first with whoever is your reference.0

If the use of "Manager" is a better description than "Team Leader" for the actual work you did, then use that - because the person reading your CV needs to understand what you did rather than what was in a document in a personal file somewhere.0

My advice would be to clear it up with your HR Department and get the correct job title applied to a new contract. Any decent HR practitioner should be only too happy to accurately reflect the reality. That should solve any issues going forward.Mortgage Free: 28/10/2010Time / Interest Saved: 18.5 years / £61,866.500

I have a similar problem with my last job title, Data Quality Manager, as the description and actual job itself are something quite different!
The job was reconcilation of revenue, amongst other things, and not as the title suggests a 'quality' manager per se. Therefore I'm getting emails from employers looking for engineers and I have to explain that my job title is somewhat of a misnomer! LOL! In some respects it's their own fault for not reading my CV.Life's what you make it....

Life beyond voluntary work scares me, but what else is there? 0 0

Always fascinates me how many fancy titles call cente operatives have; Associate, Executive, etc.0

How many people sign a new contract when they have a title change? Not a lot. Just make sure that the title describes the role that you were performing and you can justify its use in an interview.
Remember that a lot of companies do not give out personal references these day for litigation reasons and will simply quote your employment dates and last job title.
