Need to send wedding present to Australia ... any ideas?

Hey guys,

Me and my OH are friends with a couple who live in Australia. We met while they were living in England for a few years. They went back home two years ago and, although we haven't seen them since, we have kept in regular email/text message contact.

They are getting married at the start of October and unfortunately we aren't going (OH couldn't afford the flight and I didn't want to go without him :(). However we still want to get tham a present.

So - does anyone have any ideas of a present we can send them that won't cost £20+ in postage?! I was thinking maybe some sort of voucher might be best, for maybe a department store, but I don't know what they have in Australia - can anyone suggest somewhere?

(They live just outside Sydney and our budget is approx £60)

All ideas very welcome! :D

  • How about something from Harrods to remind them of their time in London? They will deliver to international addresses and the charges aren't too bad, depending on the weight. I did notice the other day that they had a few hampers with up to 50% off at the moment.
  • Have they got a wedding list at any big stores (like debenams type stores) that you can contact online and buy from over the net? It might be worth seeing if they do, that way you could save on postage, but just be wary of the exchange rate and any fees they might charge. I might be off track, but worth a try. hth

Also you could consider one of the sellers or stores on Ebay Australia.

If you emailed them first I'm sure they'd be happy to gift wrap the present for you and include a note.

Cheers guys, some useful ideas there! I'll sit down with my OH tomorrow and we'll try and decide on something.

Thanks for the link augustsmummy - that site looks like it might be just what we need!

  • Just an idea but if you know any other friends/family of theirs in the UK perhaps they would be willing to take the gift over for you depending on how big/heavy it is?

David Jones (a large Australian Department store - like John Lewis or Debenhams) allow you to buy gift cards online and will send them via Australia Post.
You could order one and have it sent to your friends address.

Sadly, there is not a lot of online shopping in Australia yet.

Royal Mint do some nice keepsakes of British Coins. May remind them of their time here and is in the year of their marriage. http://www.royalmint.com/store/BritishBase/DU09.aspx
