I love hummus and have made this via receipes available on the net as you can add garlic or chilli to suit your own tastes.

Another dip with tahini is to put a spoon full in a pan and gentle heat with yogurt add garlic and lemon juice and then serve with crudites - mine rarely makes it out the pan as its delicious warm. Could also be used with pitta breads.

In winter I make lots of soups and the kids have a bowl of whatever is going when they get back from school, with home made bread. It warms them up on a cold day and it's cheap to make. And healthy.

  • microwave crisps can be done on a plate i used to do mine that way.

peel a potato then use a the peeler to make thin crisps like shapes spray them with frylight and lay on a plate.
time is trial and error thing just put it on for a min at a time and watch it till it goes to right looking then laeve to cool and they will crisp up.
    nice salted
i used to have them on slimming world sin free
  • my son loves those little boxes of raisins, cheestrings, marmite tortuilla wraps cut into pieces and crumpet pizzas just crumpet with tomatoe puree and cheese on top with what ever else is around ie sweetcorn or peppers filling enough to bridge gap in between school and activities such as swimming with out spoiling his dinner!!

quick dip ideas - cream cheese - bit of mayo or salad cream or both - some finely chopped spring onion. mix together!
    or
mayo - teaspoon of jar mint sauce - mix - thats it!
    or for fruit - nutella!
  • My children like chocolate spread with bread sticks to dip (reminds them of the kp snack dips)
Also cream cheese and bread sticks, cucumber sticks.
You could make your own salsa dip or buy a ready made one.

Hope these are helpful... you could prob adapt them to suit your tastes. On reading they might be a bit more grown up than kiddy friendly... ooops...

    Curried bean spread
    • bunch of spring onions chopped
    • 15oz can of chick peas
    • 15 oz can of flageolet beans
    • 4 oz of low fat cottage cheese
    • 3 oz of low fat fromage frais
    • 1 tsp english mustard (ready made)
    • grated rind of half a lemon
    • splash of lemon juice
    • curry powder to taste
    • small pinch of chilli powder to taste
    • salt and pepper
Put in the blender and blend til almost smooth depending on how you like your spreads.

    Vegetable spread
    • One medium onion, chopped
    • 1 stick of celery chopped
    • 2 - 3 oz of cucumber. Remove skin and chop
    • 3 oz green pepper deseeded and chopped
    • couple of gherkins chopped (leave them out if you don't like them but they do give a nice tang to the flavour without tasting too much like gherkin)
    • 3 oz cottage cheese (press this through a sieve first)
    • 5 oz chopped fresh tomatoes
      salt to taste
    • I sometimes add a slug of tabasco if I want some fire but it's nice without.
If you like a coarse spread, just mix everything together, if you like it smoother then blend. Chill well before eating.

    Cucumber and cheese spread
    • 8oz of cottage cheese
    • 1 tsp lemon juice
    • dash of tabasco
    • half a small onion, grated or two or three spring onions finely chopped
    • 6oz cucumber, peeled and finely chopped
Mix together and cover and chill in the fridge for about an hour. This makes a soft spread.
