homemade dips & healthy snack ideas?

Hi there
I would like to turn my hand to making some homemade dips, my children seem to be hungry all the time & I refuse to feed them junk food on tap as I see that sort of thing as a treat
I have one daughter who loves all fruit, including dried fruit & she loves nuts. My other daughter only likes fresh fruit or banana chips, some nuts like cashews & pastachios so healthy snacks are tricky other than fresh fruit (which of course is fine)
Any way I thought some dips might be a good idea for them to graze on when they get home from school
Does anyone have any easy recipes for dips that will keep well in the fridge, so far I have thought of hummus or a broad bean dip
Also any other healthy snack ideas would be great
many thanks
BB

How about tzaziki (not sure if that's how you spell it): plain yoghurt, grated cucumber and some chopped mint? I loved it with breadsticks when I was a kid (still do, actually!) - I find it keeps quite well as long as you squeeze most of the liquid out of the cucumber before mixing it in with the yoghurt. Salsa's a possibility, too, if they'll eat tomatoes?Back after a very long break!0

cheese cheese favloured with various things - cream cheese and pesto is lovely, my son loves veggie sticks dipped in peanut butter! a spicey kidney bean dip with cumin, paprika and garlic?People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I'm also thinking to eat healthier, although most of my meals are homemade, I tend to buy junk things as snacks.
I came across a microwave chip maker for sale on ebay, sorry as I'm new wasn't sure if I can post link on here?! But it's originally developed from Japan/Korea but it is for sale from Hong Kong, as I'm from HK as well originally, I know they have some useful gadgets from time to time, not sure if anyone on here come across them in the UK yet?
It is a little gadget with a slicer so you can slice pots, sweet pots, banana, carrot, apple etc and it become very thin slices, then put them each individually to a stand that comes with, so each will stand on it's own separately, then microwave for 4 mins and it'll become crispy crisps with no oil or rubbish apart from if you want to add salt to it afterwards!
Sounds too good to be true but I've ordered them and will let everyone know how it goes when I receive them. I paid £4.60 with free postage, not bad if it works! :jPinklover xx0 -
I'm hopelessly fond of crisps, so I'd be very interested to know how well this works. I don't think I'll get one, though - I'd probably end up spending far too much time experimenting and munching the results!Back after a very long break!0

I think that's where mine came from...been a long time!
Thanks for the reminder though - I'll go dig it out of the cupboard. I find it's a lot easier if you've got a mandolin or other method of slicing things *really* thinly - otherwise they just take an age to microwave and never really go crispy.
But really thin sliced potato (and other veg - parsnip works well) go lovely and crispy. Fat free, too :A0 -
Some cheese graters have the one single wide blade - that should be perfect for the crisp making but never got round to trying it myself!0

Is one of these

I'm pretty sure I can't live with one now.0
